Kitchen
The kitchen is painted in Ralph Lauren's "Modern Rose" (in another brand of paint, as the designer label is not reflective of the quality of the paint). The cabinets are black Venetian plaster.
Before moving to Texas, I thought I could refinish thhe cabinets and stain them a pretty shade of green. Upon walking into the kitchen, I immediately realized that this was not happening. Eight thousand dollars for marginally acceptable cabinets and countertops was not in our budget, so I decided to refinish them with Venetian plaster, which would hide all of the imperfections.
This was an arduous project, one I will never repeat again, though to be fair, I had multiple complicated projects going on in every room of the house, so I'm a little worn out. However, they look wonderful. The picture looks a little dark, but it is surprisingly light in the kitchen. The are three windows, and both the dining room and living room entrances overlook more windows. A little bit of light comes through the utility room entrance as well. Light also reflects off the polished surface of the plaster and the light tile.
