She had the best of intentions, but Cecilia Giminez understands that the restoration of the now very famous Jesus fresco, originally painted by Elias Garcia Martinez in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church in Borj, Spain, was a bit beyond her expertise as an artist. Despite her lack of technical skill, her work has become so popular that Ryaniair offers flights to the city, encouraging passengers to visit Giminez's restoration of the culturally popular fresco.
"The once-dignified portrait now resembles a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic," says an unnamed writer at the BBC.
Now Cecilia Giminez wants royalties from the church, which has seen a huge increase in traffic since Giminez wowed the world with her interpretation of Jesus. I would buy a coffee cup, t-shirt and a tote bag of her work. How about you?
